Free Tangerine is a collaboration of Knoxville-based artists, Lauren Sanders and Eric Cagley. It is named after Lauren’s fall 2018 clothing line. It features metal props and clothing by Lauren and large, wall-sized paintings by Eric. Free Tangerine presents an unorthodox intersection of art and DIY fashion culture. Eric’s obtuse, yet balanced paintings complement Lauren’s playful and architectural sculptures. During the runway show, models become performative illustrations of Lauren and Eric’s patterns and structures. Each artist contributes his or her own perspective of spatial arrangement, creating a combined sensibility of only using what is necessary.
