CONVERSION/CONVERGENCE + FONT FLOWERS
February 24, 2014 - April 14, 2014
Travis Janssen, Matt Gilbert
NOTE: This is a Seed Space exhibition, curated by Rachel Bubis. Seed Space was founded by Adrienne Outlaw.
Travis Janssen's multi-media installation Conversion/Convergence consists of a series of prints and a projection filtered through an altered box fan, creating a hypnotic pinwill image of rainbow colors on a wall. In referencing the RGB color model prevalent in modern technology, Conversion/Convergence addresses the mechanics and physics behind technology and the notion of light in an abstract fashion.
About:
Travis Janssen received an MFA degree in Printmaking from Arizona State University and a BFA from University of Wisconsin, Madison. He has shown work in over one hundred exhibitions in venues across the United States and international locales including Finland, Iran, New Zealand, Russia, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. He currently leads Printmaking and 2-D Foundations at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
Matt Gilbert's Font Flowers are a series of prints which examine typography design. By rearranging the curves of different letter fonts into abstract flower-like forms, Gilbert brings attention to the aesthetic considerations and technical constructions of fonts that often go unnoticed.
